Cheapest Borderlands

Borderland is by far my favorite game of 2009.

Most FPS shooters are about multiplayer maps and paper-thin content updates / storylines. Borderlands offers an excellent story, along with the ability to have up to four players join in on your quest, or drop it and follow their own adventures. My only gripe was that the ending to this game was disappointing, but after doing another playthrough and downloading the zombie content update, this franchise is really going to expand when the sequel comes out.

The game plays a lot like Diablo 2, only its an FPS. Random loot drops, you upgrade your character talents, and you have certain passive abilities unique to the person you choose to play. Borderlands isn't a super pretty game, and its not without its flaws, but its uniqueness is in how it makes you feel like you're accomplishing something rather than just racking up kills and headshots. Many people are turned off by this form of play, but this game opens up FPS world in a unique and witty style.

The other main selling point for me was Borderlands offered the ability to play a character based on how I wanted to enjoy the game. There are 4 classes which cater to the head-shot FPS junkies, the stealthy backstabber, to the casual gamer who would rather just beat stuff up than aim. Even if you're a hard-core RPGer or FPSer, the genres of these two world meld together so well, it's hard not to become immersed in the storyline and looting characteristics.

While Modern Warfare 2 took the advertising and hype spotlight of the holiday season, Borderlands was the word-of-mouth winner by far. This game is how coop gamer communities are formed, and I believe is the turning of a new leaf in the FPS world. Get more detail about Borderlands.
